GEEJ

"Geej" means "The Sea" in Wolof, the official language of Senegal
At the beginning of her artistic studies, Manel Ndoye naturally devoted his work to the Lebous, a community traditionally made up of fishermen but also farmers in Senegal. The Lebous used to go out to the sea for several weeks on dugout canoes called Gaal in Wolof. Some studies suggest that this word is the origin of the word Senegal.
Manel is particularly interested in the Ndawrabine dance ceremonies, their outfits which he associates with chromatic fields.
This traditional dance also incites him to work on these works on broad techniques, philosophy and research between history, choreography, tradition, cultural memory and roots.
Manel challenges us on the plundering of the oceans and the dramatic situation of the fishermen in Dakar with foreign cargo boats that plunder and destroy the resources of the ocean, jobs and traditions by making the local fishing trades disappear.
